Welcome Moore Haven Correctional Facility Employees to CCA
On Sunday, August 1, CCA officially welcomed the 985-bed, all-male Moore Haven Correctional Facility in Moore Haven, Florida and the nearly 230 staff employed there into the CCA family.
Many dedicated CCA staff have been diligently working to bring the new facility online by August 1 since being awarded management of the new facility in April 2010.
"This is a very exciting time," explains newly-named Moore Haven Correctional Facility Warden Laura Bedard. "I told our staff recently that they are the "dream team." We have recruited the best corrections professionals from all over the country."
To attract the best talent Warden Bedard and other facility management staff held a new employee picnic to celebrate staff and their hard work.
"The picnic was a tremendous success," explains Bedard. "We had almost 90 attendees with families and children who played in the water park."
All the hard work by Moore Haven staff is finally paying off as CCA officially begins management. "Staff have been anxious to get in and get working," explains Bedard. "We've been counting down the hours until we transition. Everyone is excited about the change."
Message from CCA President and CEO Damon Hininger
I'm so pleased to welcome our Moore Haven Correctional Facility employees to the CCA family!
In April I announced CCA's new Florida contracts, including the 985-bed, male Moore Haven Correctional Facility in the city of Moore Haven. On August 1, CCA officially assumed management responsibility for this facility. Separately, we will assume management for the Graceville Correctional Facility on September 26.
Most of these nearly 230 employees were employed by Moore Haven's previous management team, the GEO Group. Others transferred from CCA facilities, and a small number were hired locally and are new to the facility and CCA. I recently sent a personal letter to the Moore Haven employees, but now I want to publicly tell each of you at Moore Haven how very glad we are that you are a part of CCA. CCA is committed to helping you expect - and receive - the best from your career with us. And, as a company, CCA wants you to be proud of our mission of protecting public safety, rehabilitating inmates, giving back to communities and bringing cost-effective, innovative corrections to taxpayers.
Separately, I want to acknowledge that we officially turned our Gadsden Correctional Facility in Quincy, Florida over to its new management team at MTC on August 1. We are grateful that a number of employees have remained with CCA. We were so proud of our entire operations at that facility and wish continued success to all the employees who remained at Gadsden.
I thank our team of professionals who led the smooth transition at both Moore Haven and Gadsden. It took dozens upon dozens of individuals to make this possible.
I congratulate new Moore Haven warden Laura Bedard, who promoted into her new position after serving as assistant warden at Gadsden Correctional Facility. We are very confident in her entire management team's expertise.
To the Moore Haven employees, enjoy your new career opportunities with CCA. We are proud of you, and we thank you for your commitment to corrections and to CCA.
Sincerely, Damon
