Teamwork

November CCA Way Contest Submission

My idea of teamwork changed when I began working at North Fork Correctional Facility.

All my life I had been taught that teamwork was stepping up and helping when you were needed. Here at North Fork I learned it doesn't mean just lending a helping hand, sometimes it means you are someone else's hand. The people at North Fork are not just employee's their more like one big family. I had first hand experience back in May.

My mother got ill and passed away and before I could pull myself together to figure out who to call and what to do, I received phone calls from my family at North Fork offering words of encouragement and offering to do whatever I needed them to. Even though most of them never even met my mother I felt like they knew and could feel the pain I was going through. I was proud to be a part of place where family still means something and its not all about filling a schedule. I appreciate all the things I have learned at North Fork and the people I work with.
