Service Driven Winning Entry
In the business of Corrections everyday is a new adventure or at least that is what I hear. You see, I work in the Human Resources Department at NEOCC and I am a Personnel Assistant so I am more a behind the scenes worker.
Don't get the wrong idea we are still very much a part of this prison industry, but our main daily function is to serve the needs of our staff and customers. Let me tell you working in HR has definitely proven to be quite a little adventure of its own.
I have been a part of CCA since April of 2005 during my time here I have truly accomplished more than I ever imagined I could personally and professionally. The opportunity for growth that is available within our company to develop its workers is incredible. Being new to the company and this line of work since I arrived I set out to be a service driven worker. I immediately dove in and began volunteering to assist other facilities as well as constantly doing so within my own. I have done this not only to learn and benefit myself, but to benefit our facility and company as a whole. Believe me that is the best way to learn just jumping in and going for it.
During my travels to assist other facilities I have met some wonderful people and learned a great deal about how other facilities run. I still contact those I have met along the way for tips and now that I'm considered a Veteran here I have those that contact me. I try to always obtain any opportunity to learn and develop myself to become a better employee. I take great pride in all the work I do here and strive to always put the needs of our staff and customers first.
On a daily basis staff are going to have issues, work will need to be done and meetings and emergencies of course are going to come up. In my time here I have learned that all tasks are equally important to complete. The order in which they need completed now that's the key! Finding that balance and keeping sane is what has made me a better worker and more productive in my area of expertise.
Northeast Ohio Correctional Center has so many service driven employees. Over and over our staff will tell you "just look at our audit scores" and they do show how we shine. Mahoning County and surrounding areas are known for their hardworking industry folks and NEOCC is definitely a part of that tradition. I am proud to be a part of this establishment and company.

Gerald Holcomb at BCCF:
Outstanding entry and even more how driven you are to do the best you can do is an excellent statement that says you are a leader by example. "If you put in a little more work and effort than the day you have done before, just imagine what can be accomplished tomorrow." Congradulations Mrs. Nevile
Linda Sevison at Idaho Correctional Center:
Good article! Writing about being "service-driven" is difficult because it isn't necessarily tangible, but you put it together very nicely. Keep up the good work in Ohio!
