Maria Stebbins - 2011 Timekeeper of the Year

Maria Stebbins

Maria Stebbins, former timekeeper at Eloy Detention Center in Eloy, Ariz., and currently a human resources generalist at Saguaro Correctional Center, has been named the 2011 CCA Timekeeper of the Year. For her hard work, Stebbins received a commemorative plaque as well as a $500 bonus.

“I was shocked and so humbled,” says Stebbins of her reaction to hearing the news. “It felt really good to know that I had been helpful and done a good job. I never worked anywhere that did anything like this before, so it was amazing.”

Stebbins has been with CCA since 2002, when she was hired as a medical administrative clerk at Eloy. As she rose through the ranks, including her recent promotion to nearby Saguaro, she has always kept the facility’s staff her top priority.

“Working with the staff and knowing that I was responsible for making sure that everything was taken care of for their livelihoods was my favorite part of the job,” says Stebbins. "Being able to interact with payroll staff at other facilities, whether asking or answering questions, or simply brainstorming, was always a tremendous help to me. I always felt like we were one big team working together to get things done right and help staff realize that CCA is a great place to work."

Though this year was the third time the Timekeeper of the Year Award was given, it marked the first time that honorable mentions were awarded. Misty Russell, timekeeper at Metro-Davidson County Detention Facility in Nashville, Tenn., and Daisy Cook, timekeeper at Lake City Correctional Facility in Lake City, Fla., both received honorable mention recognition plaques.

The Facility Support Center Payroll department first gave the award in 2008 as a part of National Payroll Week, held in September each year. The honor recognizes employees who consistently excel at payroll-related responsibilities outlined by CCA’s Guiding Principles.

“We would like to personally thank all of the CCA timekeepers for all of their hard work,” says Katlin Garrick, director, Payroll. “Their hard work and dedication help us pay all CCA employees timely and accurately.”
