Relief for earthquake victims in Haiti has been pouring in from all over the world – and CCA employees are joining in the drive to give.

Under the leadership of unit manager Eric Bryant, Wheeler Correctional Facility’s Eagle’s Nest Unit Team asked staff to contribute non-perishable items to earthquake victims – the response so far has been overwhelming, and the facility continues to collect donations.

“We applaud the Wheeler staff for their help in making a difference in the lives of others, who have experienced a traumatic tragedy,” says Sheila Reese, case manager of those units at Wheeler. “We hope that the spirit of giving continues to generate hope and help for the families whose lives have been changed.”

At Bay Correctional Facility, the staff sold burgers to inmates, raising $1,554.76 for aid through the American Red Cross.

Likewise, Eloy Detention Center staff gave hygiene products, medical supplies, clothing, shoes, blankets and more to the World Care Centers of Tuscon, Ariz. to benefit earthquake victims. “There was a generous response not only from Eloy employees but also from CCA’s partner Immigration and Customs Enforcement and their contracted medical department, Public Health Service,” says Maria Stebbins, payroll manager at Eloy.

CCA’s Facility Support Center – its national headquarters in Nashville, Tenn. – held a donation drive in which employees contributed at least five dollars to the American Red Cross. Those who donated were able to wear jeans on a day that would normally call for business attire in the office. More than 100 employees participated, generating $1,190.

Has your facility joined in the relief efforts for Haiti? Have you personally helped with community projects or other forms of aid for Haiti? Want to share some ways to champion the cause? Tell us about it by sounding out.
