CCA Names New Vice President of Operations
Ron Thompson named Vice President, Operations, Business Unit 1
After a thorough recruitment search of both internal and external candidates, CCA has named Managing Director of Division 1, Ron Thompson, the new Vice President, Operations, Business Unit 1. Thompson fills the vacant position made available when Brian Collins was named Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer. Thompson's new position becomes effective January 23, 2010.
"We want to thank the other internal candidates, who all are very strong leaders in our company," says CCA President and CEO Damon Hininger. "We are fortunate to have such a breadth and depth of talented corrections professionals within our organization. Our ability to promote from within is another indicator of CCA's commitment to professional development of our own workforce."
Ron Thompson joined CCA in 2005 after retiring from a distinguished 30-year career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, where he was a member of the BOP's executive staff in Senior Executive Service positions, including six years as Regional Director overseeing 41,000 inmates and 6,100 staff, and three years as Assistant Director, Human Resource Management Division in Washington, DC. He began his career as a correctional officer and served as a warden at two BOP facilities. In 2003, Thompson received the Presidential Rank Award for Meritorious Service. He also served as an adjunct instructor of Criminal Justice at the University of Texas at Dallas in 2004. Ron holds a B.A. in Political Science from Malone College, an M.S. in Administration of Justice from Southern Illinois University and a Certificate in Public Administration from the University of Southern California.
Thompson has made significant contributions to CCA. During his tenure, he has overseen the start-up of many CCA facilities, including Red Rock and Saguaro in Arizona, our Stewart facility in Georgia and Adams facility in Mississippi, and has brought us a level of in-depth understanding of correctional best practices. He is a strong leader who believes in mentoring those professionals around him, and he has gained great respect from his peers within and outside of CCA.
