California City Correctional Center's logo, featuring CCA's new tag line

California City Correctional Center recently became the first facility to place CCA’s new tag line – “America’s Leader in Partnership Corrections” – on its facility logo.

The initiative came about when Barbara Wagner, warden at California City, started her current position last fall. She found out the facility didn’t previously have a logo of its own, and took action.

“I introduced a challenge to all staff to submit their ideas for a facility logo,” Wagner explains. “The winning design would be used on shirts, hats, jackets and other items to be made available to staff. We also plan to have the logo reproduced on a wall in the facility’s lobby area.”

Nine employees submitted designs, which were posted on a facility bulletin board. Staff voted for their favorite design and the logo with the most votes was selected.

The winning logo was designed by Kortni Johnson, records supervisor at California City. Johnson’s design incorporates features of the local landscape: Joshua trees, desert flowers, mountains, cacti and a scorching desert sun. The logo also displays the first four guiding principles of The CCA Way: integrity, respect, trust and loyalty.

Remarkably, the facility is adopting its new logo at a difficult time, considering it may close within months.

“The logo was in the works prior to us finding out about our contract expiring,” Wagner says. “The timing isn’t great but we went ahead with it anyway because we’re very hopeful that we’ll still be here; we’re staying positive.”

How is your facility adopting CCA’s new tag line? Does your facility have a logo design in the works? Tell us about it by sounding out.
