What The CCA Way Means to Me

by Linda Sevison, Idaho Correctional Center PIO

Linda Sevison

The twelve guiding principles of The CCA Way are more than just a collection of words and ideals. They are the cornerstone of how we should be conducting ourselves, both at work and at home.

The first four principles—integrity, respect, trust and loyalty—apply to us as individuals. While each individual guiding principle stands alone on its own merit, they also build upon each other. An individual who exemplifies the principle of trust is probably also a person of integrity and well respected by his or her co-workers, friends, and family members.

Think of the guiding principles as a pie cut into four pieces. If one of the pieces is missing, the pie is not whole. I don't know about you, but I want the WHOLE pie! Respect is earned, trust is learned, integrity is valued and loyalty is endless.

The remaining eight principles are safety & security, quality, accountability, service-driven, cost-effectiveness, teamwork, communication and innovation. They apply to us as a corporate body and, again, they build upon each other. In this business, we rely on each other for our safety and security, which requires teamwork and communication.

I am the only one who is accountable for what I do (or don't do) and whether or not what I do contributes to the quality of service we are providing our customer. I promote communication at the facility through the facility staff newsletter, the Idaho Correction Connection. I look for ways to be cost effective in carrying out my daily tasks.

Best of all, I am proud to be a part of the CCA team and to be able to incorporate the guiding principles into my routine on a daily basis.
