A Warm Send-Off
As we listen to and watch the triumphs and sacrifices of our fellow Americans this continuous war which our country has found itself in have experienced, we can't help but recall of a relative, perhaps a parent or sibling, or maybe even a school mate which has lost his life defending the very nature of our being. In some cases these people do not lose their life, but rather have it altered for the rest of their lives and unintentionally, the lives of those who they love and share their ambitions and aspirations with's lives are changed forever also. In some cases this is not foreseen, or maybe the possibility is always present, but forward on they go, with some anxiety yet determined to defend what is all of ours to defend.
Recently, the Willacy State Jail was honored to help sponsor a luncheon for our very own Rio Grande Valley Heroes. The Weslaco National Guard Unit was called for duty and deployed from the Valley in South Texas during the month of October. Willacy State Jail staff members John Butler and Jacob Guerra delivered over 200 hamburger patties and 200 hot dogs to Lt. Munoz and Sgt. Garza at the Weslaco National Guard Armory on behalf of the Willacy State Jail. The soldiers will be heading to Iraq on Oct. 4 to take part in Operation Iraqi Freedom. The meal will be a somewhat good luck send off get together for soldiers and family to spend one more time with each other before the departure and ultimate 12 month separation. Willacy State Jail staff and administration would like to wish them a safe trip and triumphant return.
