Grateful

Giving Thanks for Samberg Leadership

November's Samberg Leadership Maximizer assignment is on the topic of gratitude. When I first drafted this exercise I wondered what would I include on my list of items to be grateful for. Until recently, some of these items seemed like they were burdens – not blessings. This exercise has shown me the difference.

Things for which I am grateful:

My boys.
My oldest son has been calling me almost every day and sometimes several times a day. At first I thought this was very annoying, but then I remembered it wasn't that long ago that he didn't even want to talk to me. I would go months without hearing from him. So I am grateful we have been rebuilding our relationship.

My job.
I complain sometimes about how much work there is to get done. But I really do love what I do and feel lucky to have such a good job.

My family.
I left Texas in 2001 to transfer to another CCA facility. Although I am away from my "real" family – my CCA family has always been there. I am so fortunate to know so many people across the country who I respect and trust. I know without a doubt that so many of them would be there if I ever needed anything - - and many have. I am thankful for each of them.

Some of the responses from the recent Annual Training Needs Assessment were very negative in regards to this program. At first I focused all my attention on those bad reviews. Then I realized that was not how the majority of the respondents felt. There were tons of positive comments! Thank you to all who are committed to this program, respond to your assignments each month, serve as role models to others, and seek to positively change the culture of our facilities.
