As a partner to federal, state and county governments, CCA works to provide exceptional service to correctional agencies across the country. In 2009, one of CCA’s partners – the Arizona U.S. Marshals Service – recognized a CCA employee for fulfilling that mission. Lorena Guzman, a correctional officer at CCA’s Central Arizona Detention Center, was named the first-ever Arizona USMS Contract Employee of the Year.

“I’m honored that the USMS recognized me and the work I do here,” Guzman says. “Being able to represent CCA really means a great deal to me.”

Guzman joined CCA in 2001 as a correctional officer at Florence Correctional Center. She later transferred to Central Arizona Detention Center and currently serves as a CCA liaison at the USMS office in Tuscon, Ariz. Guzman was presented with a commemorative plaque at the USMS awards ceremony held in September.

“This is a great example of what an outstanding job our staff does in this long-term partnership with a very important CCA government partner,” says Daren Swenson, CCA managing director, Operations (Division II).

Guzman was nominated by Ray Kondo, USMS assistant chief deputy.

“Lorena continues to be the most reliable, efficient and professional employee at the Tuscon office,” says Kondo. “She is usually the first CCA employee to arrive to report for duty and works almost non-stop throughout the day. Lorena is a pleasure to work with and is certainly the most deserving contract employee to receive this award.”

“We’re honored that one of our employees was selected by one of our partners for outstanding work,” says CCA president and CEO Damon Hininger. “We’re very proud of Lorena; she has demonstrated the kind of commitment we strive to exhibit daily as a company.”
