CCA Opens New Adams County Correctional Center
Adams County Correctional Center, CCA’s new 2,232-bed facility in Natchez, Miss., began accepting inmates for the Federal Bureau of Prisons in August. The facility currently houses more than 200 inmates with plans to near capacity in January 2010.
“Everything is going smoothly,” said Vance Laughlin, warden. “We have several seasoned staff here from other CCA facilities to assist and train our new staff.”
The facility brought new jobs and community outreach to the local community. “This is an exciting time in Adams County and for CCA,” said Laughlin. “We are extending our partnership with the Bureau of Prisons and bringing over 400 jobs to the Adams County community.”
The facility will host its first Community Relations Committee meeting in September, bringing local officials, community leaders and others together with members of the Adams County staff. “We’ll focus on a recap of the activation process – where we are now and where we’re going,” Laughlin explained.
In July, Adams County Correctional Center hosted a grand opening event for the community.
“The grand opening event was phenomenal,” Laughlin said. “We had over 400 people at the actual event, including staff, Federal Bureau of Prisons representatives and community partners. The employees were very proud to showcase our facility. They worked tirelessly to prepare for the event, and the hard work paid off.”
